The name “mystic topaz” sounds enigmatic and conjures up the idea of something magical. This gemstone only appeared in 1998, making it relatively young in comparison to many others.
It is actually white in color (or colorless) – on the inside, at least. Its outward appearance, however, is one of spectacular hues, forming a sparkling rainbow.
The difference between mystic and natural (white) topaz is that while the former is coated using a thin film deposition (also known as chemical vapour deposition); the latter naturally appear colorless, occasionally with light hues of blue, brown or orange.
